FOUNDATION

As we near the end of Term 1 I would like to again congratulate all of the Foundation students on a successful busy, hardworking term. What a huge effort in learning all about school life from all the different subject areas down to the organisation and routines needed and expected from all their different teachers and assessments too!

Each day saw the students getting ready for learning and the routines for that day.

This term the Foundation students explored families and self as part of the Integrated studies program.

The students experienced their first incursion with ‘Bravehearts’ where they learnt about personal safety, how to stay safe and what to do in an unsafe situation.

In Art, the students learnt about colour, what are the primary and secondary colours. The students finished off the term with printing using potatoes. Don’t we all love ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar!’.

P.E has been a bundle of fun exploring new and exciting games.

The P.M.P program also began with some obstacle courses and Cosmic Yoga, great for both the body and the mind.

I was very excited this year to introduce a new phonics program ‘Read, Write, Inc’. The students quickly took to our new class friend ‘Fred’. Fred is a frog who only speaks in sounds. The classroom has become a chorus of sounds as we all practise new sounds and ‘Freddy talk aloud’. We have also learnt ‘Freddy fingers’. This is where the students hold up set fingers and pinch them as they make the sounds to form a word.

This program has also seen the students practise ‘sound-writing’ as they complete the letter/sound handwriting sheet. This focuses on the correct letter formation.

In writing, students learnt about Recounts. They explored Recounts through weekly weekend writing sessions. The students also had a large focus on learning to write their name. This was practised daily as part of their morning routine.

In Maths this term, the students have explored numbers 0-10. The kids particularly enjoyed our singing and counting songs. We finished off the term performing for our Year 6 buddy class. Thank you, Year 6’s for being a wonderful audience.

Here’s what the students had to say about school.
